I have a few karaoke songs that I have sung, and I would like your honest opinion on any of them. If you just say they suck, please tell why and how to improve. Any help is welcome. I have currently done three songs, in which I have made my own lyrics for.

What I mean by that is that you need to breath the air into your stomach, and really open your mouth wide and project when you sing. Also, try to keep your tongue flat on the bottom of your mouth instead of arching it up. Remember that when you sing, what helps define your unique sound is actually the structure of your skull; it's like an acoustic guitar. The type of wood the body is made of, the shape, and density all contributes to the sound. So the bigger you open your mouth, the more your voice resonates, and you'll see it makes a difference in your sound. Also you sound kind of shy; if you're going to sing, sing like you would alone, like in the shower or something. Really belt it out and you'll find you can sound amazing. And turn the background music up a little. Also, try songs of different genres. Anime themes and J-rock may be the kind of music you like, but a lot of the time they're not going to teach you anything vocally or musically. They're pretty simple mostly. So try something with a bit more intricacy once you're ready. I reccommend maybe something by the shins to start off with; their vocals have a nice flow and beat to them, and are easy to get a hang of. Maybe something like Phantom Limb, or Young Pilgrams. You can look up the songs on Youtube and see if you'd like to sing them. Hope that helps. | The Skrog has spoken |:[] |

Hope that helps. ah ok many thanks RipfangDragon Joined on: 17 Oct 2006 14:12 | Re: Critique on my singing | Alright, you're asking for critique? I'm gonna do just that. Forgive me if it sounds a little harsh. I'm not trying to sound mean, love. I listened to all three songs. So I'm going to do an over all critique. You're a very breathy singer. By this I mean that you're not using enough air to bring out a full sound. Also, as a result of being so breathy, you are unable to hit the higher notes, and this throws you off pitch. A quick and easy with to fix this is breathe with your diaphragm, not your lungs. I know that sounds strange. If you're unsure what I mean, try this: Stand up and take in a deep breathe. You feel your lungs expand, correct? Well, now bend over (at a 90? angle with your back, not squatting or anything) and take in a deep breath. If you're doing this correctly, you should feel your stomach expand, not your lungs. This is the correct way to breathe while singing. If you don't use enough breath when singing, it can cause some major damage to your vocal chords (and trust me, it's not pretty looking or sounding XD). Depending on how badly you damage your vocal chords, it can be permanent. So practice breathing with your diaphragm while singing and getting enough breath under your notes. It gives you a far richer sound. Another way to help correct this is making sure you're sitting (or standing) up straight while performing. It allows your breath to travel in a straight path. If you slouch, you're unable to take in a lot of air compared to sitting up straight. It really does make a different. Another thing I noticed is that you scoop when trying to hit a higher note. This can be stopped and helped. Something my vocal teacher taught me that will help you come over top of the note instead of scooping up to it is «smelling the rose.» I bet that makes no sense at all. So, what I want you to do to understand this is: Take in a deep breath through your nose as if you're taking in the smell of a very wonderful flower (or food XD). Notice how your eyebrows and the back of throat lift. What I want you to try is singing with that feeling. It opens your airways nice and big, and allows you to come overtop of the higher notes. Also, when trying to hit higher notes, make sure you have more breath. It's also extremely important to drop your jaw, too. The higher you sing, the more open your mouth should be. A lot of singing revolves around breath control and posture. So here's a a couple of tips to help you retain this (some might be repeats XD): -Make sure you have a nice, deep breath -«smell the rose» -If you're standing, stand up straight, knees slightly bent, feet shoulder width apart -If you're sitting, sit up straight with BOTH feet flat on the floor. -If you're running out of breath and you're holding a note, or not completely done with the phrase, bend you're knees. Oh my god, does it help you finish what you need to get out without sounding breathy or losing your pitch. I'm sorry, I'm being extremely picky and probably a HUUUGE pain in your behind, but I do have a little more. D: Diction is so extremely important when singing. If you didn't post the lyrics, I'd probably have no idea what you're singing. Another important thing is to not sound like you're pulsing when you're singing. When you sing, you should: sing like this. Not. Like. This. It should all be one, fluid sound, like water, not broken up like rungs on a ladder. Also, just a tip: NEVER EVER SING WHEN YOU'RE SICK!! D: Trust me XD I did it and lost my voice. I damaged my vocal chords so bad. ;.; It's not worth it! I think that's about it. You have a very nice voice, but you're not doing these few things, and it really does make all of the difference to do them. Keep practicing, sweety! ^__^ And I really hope I helped more than I pestered. |

Thanks. I'm sorry! I'm bothering you XD But Skrog said something that bothers me a little (ILU SKROG!)
Really belt it out
NO. Do NOT belt! That's damaging to your vocal chords! If you want to sing loud, use more breath. If you use your throat to get louder, you WILL damage your vocal chords. Use your breath. I can't stress that enough! XD Work your diaphragm muscles. You should feel your stomach "clenching."
Oh, I wish I could come over and give you some visuals XD It would be so much easier <3~ Grethe_B Joined on: 9 Mar 2006 08:16 | Re: Critique on my singing | I agree with rip. it sounds like you are stopping after every word due breathing after air but just practice on the breathing technique with your mouth and it will be perfect! =) very nice voice! remember that! it is GOOD! *thumbs up!* keep it up, nala! =D |
Love is just bullshi* sometimesquote] |
