When people just fav your work and run. Uh hello? I'd like a little feedback on why you like it or what I can improve thanks! If its not too much to ask, even a little 'Its cute, love the colouring' comment would be nice. I mean, I spend so many hours on my art and constantly check the sites just waiting for a comment to pop up so I can read it. I enjoy seeing what people think of my art. So sue me. The fav system is nice, I don't want it gone, just a comment to go with it? Please? Is that too much to ask? D: Nngh. -headdesk-

i get to ditto :3 it does get annoying. D: when you get comments you want to draw more often to get the smae affect, or to get some tips or help, and to see if you can improve more... it's true! YOU GUYS NEED TO COMMENT!!! i bet you guys like comments too, so why not comment on our art so we can comment back on your art? it makes sense, no?

I know I do that all the time...I just feel too scared to do that; being an extremely paranoid person. Yes, I do think someone's going to lash out at me. I used to comment a lot though on DA but I never got comments on my stuff in return. Probably why I stopped commenting; I'm not known enough...and I do realize that just favoriting wont make me be visible any faster. So, I'm sorry. I'm trying to get up my commenting habits again, though.

No. A fav, heck even a pageview, is just as good as a comment. I feel artists should be grateful people are even looking at their work to begin with. Besides, a fav is basically free advertisement. Someone sees it in another's favorites and goes to look at the rest of the artwork. You possibly even gain more watchers that way. A favorite is just fine by me.

There have been lots of threads on dA about this. After thinking about it a bit, and reading them, this is what I have to say... Many people are favoriting it because... they like it enough to feel it deserves to be in their 'Favourites' list, not necesarily for your sake, sorry to say. xP As nice as comments are, I also know that some people feel awkward giving one-or-two-liner comments, don't know what else to say, and that in a few cases this is justified. I've seen people getting just as annoyed by these kinds of comments as other people are by favorites without comments. It's like being annoyed at people who don't put comments up with their works, just saying "..." or giving a date of completion, or such. While it can be interesting to see what the artist his/herself thinks of their work, or a story behind it, it *is* their choice, and they have no *responsibility* to say something.

In my opinion favourites and commenting should be more or less one. When you post a comment you have the choice to add it to your favourites, so you have to comment. This would, spark loads of short "I like it" comments, but it would encourage some people to give better critique on art. Like Majalo I think that even small comments are better than just a favourite.

It doesn't bother me, because I do the same thing. This is a major topic over at deviant art and I always thought it was silly. The popular artist get upset because they don't get criticisms and get tons of "OMG SO CUTE" comments and think people should comment before they fave. Yet they don't want the "cute" comments. If I have something to say, I say it and fave, if not I just fave. I know I'm not going to get serious good critique on my work so yeah, faves are fine with me. Comments are fine too but I don't tend to get as many.

Agree with poisonedsoda. Most people on this thread are also doing this, just like I am. That's why I didn't reply when I read this. A topic seen too many times.

To me, it depends. Are you looking for critique on that piece? Is it just a leisure post? Some of the things I post, I just post to post 'cause I like it, not 'cause I'm looking for feedback on that particular piece (usually because I know the errors already). But when it comes to what I WANT feedback on, I totally agree. It just depends, for me. :P

Why don't you stop whining and appreciate what you have :D That'd be great.

I prefer comments to faves...it feels like people are actually -looking- at my art more than a fave does...maybe that's just how I am...however, I would enjoy a "reply" button to notify people that I'm thanking them for a face or a comment....

Faves good, but without comment it's "cold" aye... Some people automatically faves the new pic and that's most annoyin 8l ... my opinion kthnxbai.

Exactly. I spent five hours STRAIT on one picture, only to get..what three comments and 10 favorites. -.-; I just want some feedback, or at least a nice comment saying "Aww, I feel so sorry for ___" or somthing. Makes me smile for a second or two, cause I know they liked it.

Protip: Draw for your own satisfaction and these issues vanish.

I think Arzach is right, everybody wants feedback, but this is something that cant really be changed. And nagging people to comment only makes them want to run from your page, a favourite is still someone admitting they like something. Not everyone wants to sit down and think of WHY they like it. Feel lucky you get faves and the odd comment, its better than nothing. :/

I don't think AG is a place where one should be overly concerned about how many pageviews they receive, honestly.

I enjoy whatever I get. I personally don't like this complaint. They like it, they fav'd it. It would be the same as saying "this is good" So whenever someone favs but doesn't comment, just picture one of those generic "I love it" comments. Oh, and ask for feedback in your comments. Ask for crits, ask for opinions, anything. sometimes that helps. .... :

Tineoidea did you even read this thread! It not about page views. It is about faving and not commenting. I don't really care if you fav or comment about my stuff(mainly because it all sucks right now). Just any one look at my stuff suits me just fine.

Silly Scorpion. Tricks are for kids. Honestly, pageviews, comments, faves... Art should be done for the sake of art, not how for much attention you get. It annoys me when artists depreciate themselves over the fact that someone presses a button over something as lame as "lawl good job". It's kind of why I take my art to the "real" world, advertising it in college dorms and the like, as opposed to a site that's hardly a notable site for promoting art.

LOL I know tricks are for kids. That is why I steal it from them. Yes, you should do art for your self. But if you are trying to improve your self or if you really would like to know what people think of their work. Now you say this site(or maybe anther site your talking)is hardly notable is more for friends to see your work. Now if you want to advertise use deviantart. It is good you advertise around your college, but the internet is the place were the whole world has the chances to see your work.

Or where the whole world can miss your art in the tumult of others...

Considering the majority of DavArt's popular section is plagued with animu and furries, I wouldn't say it's all that reputable either.

And what is wrong with that? I mean I'm not a big fan of those things but you got admit their some good artist that do that kind of art. You got to take the good with the bad when you are try those kind of sites. But hey if just promoting your art around your college is fine with you then all the more power to you.

In my experience, I think one is more successful in promoting art by *gasp* getting away from the computer. Besides, considering the popuarity of the aforementioned "styles", I feel more comfortable designing music flyers than some kid's kawaii desu cat creatres.

Well I ant saying only promote on the internet. But now a days most commercial art is done on the computer then put into the "real world". If not using the computer working so well for you then great.

Luckily for you, Scorpion, you don't have to worry about selling any art, digital or otherwise. So don't worry about it. In conclusion... Majjie, praise is always good, but don't let that deter you from taking pleasure in creating.

No. If people comment, they comment. If they fave, they fave. They don't owe me anything, and are free to do as they will.

if you want crits... just write it with bold/italic text. I got problems with people who doesn?t draw anything giving weird crits on my art when I have not asked for it.

E-err... um... D: I'm guilty of faving and running. Its not... its not really running... I just don't feel worthy enough to comment/don't really know what to say, and I am shy. ;_; I'm better at giving advice on forums. I'm kinda glad so many are defending lurking favoriters, even if its just because they don't care either way. Now I feel less guilty.
