Sketcher2
Let's talk about Sketcher2!!

I've just been using it for a few mins, already mastered it :P xD

I really love the jitter and noise brushes, those will prove to be useful. And i love how you get different brush presets (numbered from 1 to 6)

I'm sorta confused as to why there are 5 layers (an additional value layer) What is values? X_X

I think i've also found a problem with the strength setting, when you set it to anywhere between the left most side and the center, the brush will be white, just like the eraser... So, sensitive strength perhaps?

I'm confused as to why there is a check box next to the size and strength settings :S

And just one last thing; where are the pencil, pen, smudge and eraser? It'd be nice to have those..

The checks next to the size and strength settings gives pen pressure to each, so your brush strokes will become wider and stronger depending on how hard you press during the stroke.

As for the eraser, pencil and smudge you just kinda make your own one with the settings and saved pen brushes.

I used it for a second, but it's too laggy for my computer right now.

But yeah, the two check boxes are for pen pressure. One is for size, and one for strength.
It looks really good though 8D nice lot of options to play with~

Wow!
My compliments to the planners and programmers on this one. I sat down and really messed with the Sketcher 2 tools for a while to see what could be done, and I was damned impressed! Good work! This has me excited over some of the possibilities for really in-depth pictures and collaborations in the future. And it really had genuine alpha-channel transparency! I love what's going on with it, and I'll be anxious to try out the updates as they come along.

I haven't had too much time to play around in it, so here's my contribution for now:

I wish everything was better labeled. For example: the hammer tab just has 1, 2, 3, 4...etc. I'm not sure if they're something I can set as brushes, or if they all do something different...they're just numbers and mean little to nothing to me.

Tips
Just some tips for people trying the new Sketcher who might be confused as to what's going on. This is just based on observation from using it, though.

Sketcher 2 uses actual transparency instead of just using a Multiply combining method for the layers. What that means is, while working on the current sketcher is like drawing on sheets of clear plastic using transparent markers, working on Sketcher 2 is like painting on sheets of clear plastic using opaque paints, like when someone paints traditional animation cels. This can be a little confusing at first, since currently, people would tend to do their sketch work on the topmost layer, then ink on the next layer down, color on the next layer down, and so on. For Sketcher 2 this would be reversed! You'd want to sketch or do your disposable work on the lowest layer on the list, and have your ink lines on the top layer, with the colors located on one of the middle layers. And, the layer names have been re-arranged to reflect this, which is why Sketch is now at the bottom of the list and Ink is at the top.

As for the numbered tools, they're all identical, and any of the 6 slots can be adjusted to be used as any tool you want. Even as an eraser! They each come with presets, so for instance they perform as follows right out of the box:

1 - Pen
2 - Pencil
3 - Airbrush (fat, fuzzy pen in other words)
4 - Eraser
5 and 6- Pen, like slot 1.

However, you can change any tool to perform like any other, even as an eraser. The key to erasing is the 3rd slider down, the «Strength» slider. Move it to the left of the middle point and it starts removing «paint» until it's shoved all the way to the left, at which point it becomes a full-powered paint-removal machine and leaves you with a clean, transparent layer wherever you use it. If it's moved just slightly left of center, though, it rubs out paint only gradually, like a weak eraser. Move the Strength slider right of center, though, and it becomes a paint adding tool, until finally, pushed all the way to the right, it lays down a solid track of paint that covers everything beneath it.

One part of the new system that might mess with people who aren't used to working with opaque layers is that you can paint lighter colors over darker colors and have the digital paint hide everything beneath it. For example, let's say you did a black drawing on the Sketch layer, then went to the layer above it, the Color layer, and used a full-strength tool to lay down white paint. You could paint white until the black drawing on the Sketch layer was entirely hidden, and it would seem to be gone to anyone looking. And, anyone trying to draw on the Sketch layer, under the white paint that is laid down on the Color layer, would see nothing, as if their tool isn't working, since what they are drawing is being drawn beneath a veil of white paint. Then, if the white paint on the Color layer is erased... There's the work on the Sketch layer, revealed.

Sorry if that was a bit long, but I hoped it might help out anyone who is confused about what's going on.

A few things i'd like to see implemented:

The Blur brush is interesting, but far from useful. Basicly in trying to draw white on top of black all I seem to be doing is smudging the black. Actually, you have to change brush to build up white on top of black.

Obviously with paints this wouldn't be the case

Give us a smudge brush > blur brush.

thanks.

@Arzach:
Ahh, yes, that does help. A lot, actually, but my point still stands XD I think something that would also be useful is if the first tab was labeled a little better than with just numbers. Also, for first time sketcher users, some sort of «how to» thing that explains the sketcher step-by-step. I'm an experienced sketcher user and sketcher two made little to no sense to me when I first saw it (even before you explained the numbers).

Sketcher2 will apparently only be available to those who have Oasis access. So i believe you'd be an experienced sketcher user by this time. Thats if you were talking about Skethcer2.

If not, i agree; there should be a guide for new Sketcher users.

Well, my point was: even as an experienced user, I was very lost. XD An explanation on a few of the things in there would be nice if it's going to go public in any way, shape or form. =P

I kind of like the spacing in sketcher 1 better.
I find it hard to sketch comfortably even with no spacing in sketcher 2.

But... that's my opinion :>

So i'm guessing only users with Oasis access are able to use sketcher 2?!
And if you're not an oasis user, you need a password. How come regular users aren't allowed to use it?

Re: Sketcher2
I come here for the tools specifically because there's nothing else like it online that I've found. That being said: other than the aggravation of there being no way to get that 'watercolor tool' effect with a smudge tool I could find, the sketcher 2 is fairly painless to transition to. Layers are like more common pchat progams I've used and easy to understand. Sliders are quickly understandable with some brief testing for the most part.

I think reversing the layers and taking away that multiply feature that makes coloring so tricky so it's more like every other paintchat program out there is kind of boring; and if Sketcher 2's just going to be a standard pchat with different looking buttons and nothing for a painterly coloring effect* I really hope they keep the original program as an option to use.

*not that you can't do a lot with airbrushing color and tweaking the sliders around playing with opacity and layers, it's just not nearly as pretty or fun to use, for me.

I would really really like if the brushes were labeled better. Being someone with little to no patience I found myself very flustered after only having been in sketcher2 for about five minutes. It just makes things more confusing to not have them labeled. Also, a better explanation of the sliders instead of just pictures would be nice. I mean, I got them fairly quickly because i've been using sketcher for over a year, but other users may not. Plus, there are oodles of different sliders now, and it does make things a little confusing. And yeah, I think an explanation of the new features would be fantastic as well.
